Old Virginia Smooth Panel Estate Briar Pipe, Master Evans [SOLD OUT]

Out of stock

Description

I would have to assume that this pipe was made for the Old Virginia Tobacco Company, which in the past has had esteemed makers such as Savinelli produce pipes for them. This one seems a little different, however, in that it was clearly made by an artisan, rather than a factory – and a talented one at that. It reminds me of the American freehand tradition, and carvers such as Tim West and Randy Wiley, though I can’t say for certain who the mystery maker was.

The shape is quite unique. It is a wide, paneled, bent pot, sort of like a foursquare author. The grain is marvelous, with its panels displaying a mixture of flame grain and bird’s-eyes.

The condition is excellent. It has been well looked after. If you happen to know who the maker was, please do let me know.
