Old England 52S by Sasieni Rusticated Apple Estate Briar Pipe, English Estates
Out of stock
Description
Along with names like Barling, Charatan, and Dunhill Sasieni holds a special place in the history of English smoking pipes – one near to its very beginnings. So the story goes, Sasieni himself worked for Dunhill during its early days. But eventually he left Dunhill, having his own ideas about how pipes should be made, and founded Sasieni. This was 1919, and Sasieni has been the closest thing to a household name in English pipes ever
Sasieni always had particularly exacting standards for its pipes, even within the highly competitive milieu of 20th century English pipes. So, when a bowl was found to have even the tiniest, superficial imperfection, it would be used for one of Sasieni’s many sub-brands. Such will have been the case for this Old England, though I couldn’t tell you exactly how it missed out on being a Four Dot of some variety.
The condition is great. Some minor, inner rim darkening.
