Description
Nørding was founded by Erik Nørding in the 1960s, and is one of the oldest remaining companies to come out of the Scandinavian pipe-making renaissance that began in the mid-20th century. Now in his 80s, Erik Nørding is one of the most experienced and skilled pipe-makers in the world, and over the decades he has also been a teacher of other Danish masters, such as Poul Ilsted, Svend Axel Celius, Jens Tao Nielsen, Peder Jeppesen, and Søren Erik Andersen.
According to the Nørding pipes website, Erik Nørding himself “has probably produced more freehand pipes than any other pipe-maker.” While marketing materials are prone to hyperbole, in this instance I think I’d agree. After all, he’s been making pipes since the 1950s, and since even the Nørding brand was created. And, during those early post-war decades, it was figures such as Nørding, Viggo Nielsen, and Preben Holm, who made the freehand what it is today. This one is a very classic freehand, while at the same time being uniquely modernized through the use of a partial rustication that flutes the bowl on each side, giving it a somewhat floral quality.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating, and comes with its original sleeve.
