Description
Nørding was founded by Erik Nørding in the 1960s, and is one of the oldest remaining companies to come out of the Scandinavian pipe-making renaissance that began in the mid-20th century. Now in his 80s, Erik Nørding is one of the most experienced and skilled pipe-makers in the world, and over the decades he has also been a teacher of other Danish masters, such as Poul Ilsted, Svend Axel Celius, Jens Tao Nielsen, Peder Jeppesen, and Søren Erik Andersen.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this is one of Nording’s “Abstract” line of freehand pipes. It’s essentially a line of extensively rusticated pipes, done so to create a pipe that could be said to be “even more freehand than freehand.” What I find most interesting about this line, along with Nording’s other recent pipes in that vein, is that they’re genuinely novel when it comes to freehand design. For example, Nording’s one-time contemporary, Preben Holm, was incredibly versatile and, for a long while, had covered just about every style of freehand (and many non-“freehand”) finish and style under the sun. But he didn’t make anything like this, which is a true testament to Erik Nording’s continued dedication to innovative pipe design.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It comes with its original sleeve.
