Moore Mark by Custom-Bilt Rusticated Bullmoose Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates
Out of stock
Description
This Moore Mark looks a lot like a Custom-Bilt (later Custombilt), and there seems to be a good reason for that. Moore Mark was a brand owned by John Hudson Moore, Inc., an American pipe distributor in the 1940s. As far as I have been able to research, one of the makes that JH Moore distributed was Custom-Bilt, with Bill Unger’s book on the latter finding a direct connection between the two. I’d wager that Tracy Mincer (for the 1940s were for the most part the “Mincer era” of Custom-Bilt production) made this one for JH Moore so be sold under their name, as is frequently the case with makers and distributors. If I’m wrong, though, please do let me know.
The condition is great. For a pipe of its vintage, it is remarkably preserved.
