Mincer Era Custombilt Panel Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
Custom-Bilt (later, as in this case, Custombilt) pipes were originally created in the early 20th century by Tracy Mincer, an American pipe-maker. Later adopting the slogan, ‘As Individual as a Thumbprint,’ Custom-Bilts were each rusticated by hand, giving them their signature rugged look, and ensuring that no two Custom-Bilts were exactly alike. Today, these pipes are prized by collectors, pipe history enthusiasts, and those who generally appreciate a well-made smoking machine.
This particular example was made during the years when Tracy Mincer carved the Custom-Bilt pipes (1921-46), as evinced by the ‘Custom-Bilt’ stamping on the side of the shank. The pipe is a classic Custom-Bilt design; we’ve listed it as a Panel, a shape that was very popular in the first half of the 20th century, and well known now. While there is some rim darkening and a little stem oxidation, this is to be expected for a pipe that’s at least 75 years old (possibly even a full century!).
