Description
This particular pipe came to us with a batch of new old stock (NOS) pipes from a store closure a few states over. Based on what I was able to research, the Mina company runs a pipe workshop in China, not unlike HS Studio or GH Zhang, which produces a number of different makes based on the style of pipe. This one is a very interesting apple shape, with a distinct heft that makes it reminiscent of the later Danes—Nanna Ivarsson being one—as well as the St Petersburg school of pipe design—most notably Vladimir Grechukhin, Alexander Tupitsyn, Sergey Dyomin, and their PS Studio collaborations. There’s a good deal of bird’s-eye grain around the pipe’s bulbous bowl, and it even has a boxwood accent inlaid in the stem. Color me impressed.
