Description
At MBSD we sell a lot of high-grade, high-quality pipes from various iconic makes, but the pipes we’re most proud of are our meerschaums. Right from the beginning, we wanted to offer the best smoking meers on the market. To do this, we made sure that they were made with block meerschaum that was carefully selected to be the most lightweight, pure, and porous available, meaning it would also color more quickly and evenly as it is smoked.
I’ve always been enamored by 19th and very early 20th century antique meerschaums. That’s why, for this pipe, I asked my carver in Türkiye to recreate a meerschaum pipe from the 1800s that I’d once seen. This is the result: a pencil-shank Liverpool billiard with a sterling silver spigot and a stem fashioned to resemble the amber that was commonplace over a century ago. While I’d originally been set on a smooth finish, my carver suggested adding some latticework to bring the design closer to 19th century pieces, and to help distinguish it from clay tavern pipes. I agreed, and I’m glad I did.
