Description

The MBSD Meerschaum Silver is our new series of silver mounted meerschaum pipes. Using the same high-grade, fast-coloring Turkish meerschaum found on our Deluxe series, these pipes exclusively feature silver army mounts or spigot mounts.

This pipe comes out of our ongoing efforts to bring traditional and modern briar pipe shapes into the world of meerschaum, with the influences behind this one being the volcano shapes of contemporary North American artisans. Figures such as Todd Johnson and Michael Parks have helped to practically reinvent the volcano, similarly to the way the Danes reinvented the brandy, so the idea behind this one was to continue in that vein. It is thus larger, more angular, and more assertive than classical interpretations, with ridges and rounds that bring it closer to the geological formations that are its namesake. On the other hand, certain distinctly Turkish elements are present in this rendition, especially in its spiraling latticework. In the past, we’ve had designs like this in our Deluxe range, which were well received. This time, it’s a Silver line version, with a sterling army mount and a reverse calabash system nestled within its shank. This one is also a sitter.
