Description
The MBSD Meerschaum Silver is our new series of silver mounted meerschaum pipes. Using the same high-grade, fast-coloring Turkish meerschaum found on our Deluxe series, these pipes exclusively feature silver army mounts or spigot mounts.
The cherrywood is a staple of briar pipe-making whose origins reside not in briar but—as the name suggests—in the wood of the cherry tree. Its distinct shape comes from the way early wooden pipe-makers in the 19th and 20th centuries carved cherry tree branches into something that tobacco could be smoked with. A meerschaum cherrywood is an odd thing, then, if you think about it, being a descendant of a shape in a medium that was itself a descendant of a shape in another medium. But this strangeness soon dissipates when you get one in your hands. The cylindrical bowl makes for a good, uniform coloring as the pipe is smoked, and the overall design is extremely ergonomic. This one has an expanded shank section, accommodating within itself a reverse calabash system, which should provide an even cooler, drier smoke.
