MBSD Meerschaum Deluxe Rusticated Poker Block Meerschaum Pipe, Briar-Mortise

Description

At MBSD we sell a lot of high-grade, high-quality pipes from various iconic makes, but the pipes we’re most proud of are our meerschaums. Right from the beginning, we wanted to offer the best smoking meers on the market, and to do this, we had them made with two distinct features. First, we made sure that they were made with block meerschaum that was carefully selected to be the most lightweight, pure, and porous available, meaning it would also color more quickly and evenly as it is smoked. Second, for our Deluxe meerschaums, we had the pipes made with a patented Briar-Mortise system that is closer to the stem connection on a briar pipe than a standard meerschaum. This is because, on our Deluxe models, the mortise is made from briar itself, while the tenons used are made from Delrin. This allows for more precision construction of the pipe’s draft hole, as well as a general extra durability and longevity.

Tobacco pipe design has for centuries been pulled along by smokers’ desires for something that works well and for something that looks good. This is broadly the case in product design writ large. The degree of importance assigned to either of these qualities is deeply personal, but since around the end of the 20th century, after the boom in extravagant pipe design from the post-war Danish schools, there has been significant counter-movement back to stripped-down, functionalist smoking instruments by many in the community. And when it comes to shapes, it doesn’t get much more functionalist than the poker. This Deluxe is our own contribution to the functionalist revival spearheaded by figures such as Tom Eltang and Erik Nording, but in meerschaum and with our signature, patented Briar-Mortise. It’s extremely lightweight, easy to disassemble, and will do exactly what you need it to—and it’ll color beautifully all the while.
