MBSD Meerschaum Deluxe Rhodesian Block Meerschaum Pipe, Briar-Mortise

At MBSD we sell a lot of high-grade, high-quality pipes from various iconic makes, but the pipes we’re most proud of are our meerschaums. Right from the beginning, we wanted to offer the best smoking meers on the market, and to do this, we had them made with two distinct features. First, we made sure that they were made with block meerschaum that was carefully selected to be the most lightweight, pure, and porous available, meaning it would also color more quickly and evenly as it is smoked. Second, for our Deluxe meerschaums, we had the pipes made with a patented Briar-Mortise system that is closer to the stem connection on a briar pipe than a standard meerschaum. This is because, on our Deluxe models, the mortise is made from briar itself, while the tenons used are made from Delrin. This allows for more precision construction of the pipe’s draft hole, as well as a general extra durability and longevity.

I was talking to one of our customers about our meerschaum pipes, and he raised an interesting point. While I talk a lot about wanting our meers to include designs that are closer to briar staples, both modern and traditional, this wide variety sometimes neglects stem designs – more specifically, the various hues and palettes that a stem can be. In the past, I’ve leaned more toward black, amber, and cumberland-style colors because that’s what I associated with classic briar shapes. But, when I thought about it, I realized that stems can be all sorts of interesting designs, with similarly interesting results when paired with stummels, including meerschaum ones. This particular Deluxe is modeled after army mount Rhodesian shapes – though in this instance the mount is briar – with a camouflage-themed stem that plays off the briar mount really nicely. I’ll bet it’ll look fantastic once the meerschaum has some color on it too. On a last note, this pipe is very lightweight, making it a highly comfortable clencher.
