Mastro Geppetto Rusticated Panel Dublin Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
Mastro Geppetto pipes are made by the Italian workshop brand Ser Jacopo. One could call them Ser Jacopo’s series of ‘affordable’ pipes, and while this would be correct purely from the standpoint of price, it wouldn’t be entirely fair to them in other regards. Geppetto pipes are hand made from the same high-grade briar as Ser Jacopo pipes, but the former do not use the plateau cuts that the latter does, which are more expensive; Geppetto pipes also tend to be simpler shapes, meaning they do not require the use of the highly technical flexible drilling machinery that Ser Jacopo’s wilder shapes do.
As I’ve said in some previous listings, one really interesting thing about Mastro Geppetto pipes is that they’ve created a space for Ser Jacopo’s workshop to create pipes that are of different styles to the make’s usual, often grandiose, Renaissance aesthetic. This pipe, for example, is a very traditional panel Dublin, with the shorter stature and lighter weight of the early French briars. On the other hand, this Mastro Geppetto utilizes the same house rustication style of Ser Jacopo pipes, with an aesthetic less like marine pebbles and more like volcanic rock.
This Mastro Geppetto is completely unsmoked. It also comes with its original sleeve.
