Description

Mastro Geppetto pipes are made by the Italian workshop brand Ser Jacopo. One could call them Ser Jacopo’s series of ‘affordable’ pipes, and while this would be correct purely from the standpoint of price, it wouldn’t be entirely fair to them in other regards. Geppetto pipes are hand made from the same high-grade briar as Ser Jacopo pipes, but the former do not use the plateau cuts that the latter does, which are more expensive; Geppetto pipes also tend to be simpler shapes, meaning they do not require the use of the highly technical flexible drilling machinery that Ser Jacopo’s wilder shapes do.

Minimalist designs are all the rage these days, in the world of pipes. And you can’t really get any more minimalist than a poker. As pipe-makers such as Tom Eltang, Nording, and Paronelli have shown, there is a great appeal to the functionalist simplicity of poker shapes. With this pipe, Ser Jacopo’s Mastro Geppetto workshop seem to have offered their own interpretation of this trend. It is similarly stripped down, ergonomic, portable and extremely lightweight, but, being a high-grade, distinctly Italian workshop, the MG carvers added their own aesthetic to the basic design. The bowl, for one, is smooth polished and lightly stained, showing plenty of cross grain and bird’s-eye patterns. The stem, on the other hand, is white Italian lucite, with a single black swirl that hangs, ribbon-like, at the stem’s transition to a saddle cut.

This Mastro Geppetto is completely unsmoked, and comes with its original sleeve.
