Mastro Geppetto Liscia 1 Smooth Cutty Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
Mastro Geppetto pipes are made by the Italian workshop brand Ser Jacopo. One could call them Ser Jacopo’s series of ‘affordable’ pipes, and while this would be correct purely from the standpoint of price, it wouldn’t be entirely fair to them in other regards. Geppetto pipes are hand made from the same high-grade briar as Ser Jacopo pipes, but the former do not use the plateau cuts that the latter does, which are more expensive; Geppetto pipes also tend to be simpler shapes, meaning they do not require the use of the highly technical flexible drilling machinery that Ser Jacopo’s wilder shapes do.
As I’ve said in other listings, one of the nice things about Mastro Geppetto is that it’s allowed the Ser Jacopo workshop to explore shapes and styles that are different from the latter’s established aesthetic. This one, for example, is a very classically-inclined cutty shape, but one that draws on the pipe-making traditions of early-20th century French briars, rather than modern Italian designs. A result of this inclination is that the pipe is more compact and far lighter than most Ser Jacopo pipes, coming in at just 32 grams without sacrificing chamber volume.
This Mastro Geppetto is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It also comes with its original sleeve.
