Luciano Sandblasted Morta Canadian Estate Pipe, Unsmoked

Out of stock

Description

Those who were around during the 2010s may remember Luciano pipes. They were the creation of Luca di Piazza, owner of the now seemingly defunct Italian retailer NeatPipes, and were very well received when they made their American debut. Produced in partnership with Radice, and with some designs co-created with GL Pease, Luciano became a go-to for a high quality, reasonably priced, Italian pipe. By the end of the 2010s, however, Neat Pipes, and Luciano with it, had all but disappeared, with production presumed to have ceased.

What’s that saying? A light that shines twice as bright burns half as long? I suppose that could describe Luciano pipes. Perhaps Luca di Piazza will return to the scene one day, but until then, at least we have estates like this one. It is an understated, though still very beautiful, Canadian, made from millennia-old morta wood, i.e., fossilized oak. While morta pipes are more often given smooth polished finishes, this one is sandblasted, creating a mesmerizing look and feel. Morta is also quite a lightweight material, which is in part why this pipe is a mere 34 grams and an ideal clencher.

This pipe is completely unsmoked with what looks to be a slightly flaked bowl coating. It also comes with its original sleeve and sales pamphlet.
