Keresaspa Sandblasted Bent Apple Handmade Briar Pipe, Iran Artisan Pipe
Out of stock
Description
Originally trained a luthier and then as an architect, Keresaspa is one of the most talented pipe-makers currently working in Iran. Equally inspired by Persian antiquity (including its remarkable architecture) and the 20th century Danish masters (such as Sixten and Lars Ivarsson, Bo Nordh, and Jess Chonowitsch), Keresaspa’s approach fuses the ancient with the ultramodern. His background in luthiery and architecture also inform his work, having an acute sense of the precision calculations involved in pipe-making, from drilling the perfect airway to shaping the perfect mouthpiece.
This particular pipe from Keresaspa has all the hallmarks of a Danish great. We could call it a bent apple, but it’s nicely plump in a way that better recalls the pipes of masters such as Lars Ivarsson or Jorn Micke. The sandblasting too, is expertly applied, bringing out the briar’s natural ring grain in a way that is quite difficult for rounder bowls such as this one. The shank is capped with a ring of bone, and the stem is ebonite, hand carved with Keresaspa’s renowned precision.
