Description

Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors’ items, in addition to being fantastic smokers.

As evinced by the four-digit shape code and “Kaywoodie” nomenclature, this particular Kaywoodie dates from prior to 1936, with the “Imported Briar” stamping appearing to indicate that it was made in 1935. It is a classic billiard of medium size, with a weight that should make it an easy clencher. As the series title suggests, the grain is indeed excellent, with plenty of bird’s-eye patterns left to speak for themselves by a simple, virgin stain.

For a nearly 90 year-old pipe, it is in very good condition. There is some darkening and finish fading on the rim, and a couple of spots of char that have pushed the inner lip of the rim slightly out of round, but the pipe is nonetheless nicely preserved.
