Description
Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors’ items, in addition to being fantastic smokers.
Similarly, the Silhouette was a staple in Kaywoodie’s production between 1936 and 1969, originally featuring a dark sandblast, a black vulcanite stem, and a silver collar. Based on the shape number, I’d estimate that this one is from the 1950s. The blast is wonderfully craggy, with the briar’s growth rings brought into sharp relief, making for a pipe that is both rugged and reserved. At 36 grams, it’s an easy clencher, and features Kaywoodie’s famous four-hole stinger for a cool, dry smoke.
The condition is fair. Rim darkening and finish fading.
