Kaywoodie Silhouette 42 Sandblasted Straight Apple Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates

Description

Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors’ items, in addition to being fantastic smokers.

The shape ’42’ medium apple was introduced by Kaywoodie all the way back in 1936, and was a fixture in their catalogs right up until 1969. Similarly, the Silhouette was a staple in Kaywoodie’s production between 1936 and 1969, though during that time the model changed from being a black sandblasted pipe (hence the name) to what we have here, which is far closer to Dunhill’s Tanshell in hue. Regardless, it’s a neat little pipe, with a craggy, ring grain sandblast almost evocative of the old Barling’s Make or Charatan finishes, along with a metal collar, a vulcanite stem, and Kaywoodie’s patented four-hole stinger. The pipe is also extremely light, at 32 grams, so should be a comfortable clencher for just about any smoker.

The condition is great. There’s a tiny bit of darkening on the inner lip of the rim, but that’s nothing to worry about.
