Kaywoodie Meerschaum Lined Smooth Canadian Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Description
Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors’ items, in addition to being fantastic smokers.
Meerschaum-lined Kaywoodies were first introduced in 1936 and were some of the highest-grade Kaywoodies money could buy, which was additionally indicated by the use of a black and white cloverleaf logo inset in the stem. Looking at this one, I can see why. It isn’t just lined with meerschaum, the briar itself is absolutely gorgeous. Even my colleague, an inveterate Danish pipe snob, thought it was really something! The straight grain around the bowl, as well as the bird’s-eye on its underside and rim, is beautifully accented by the semi-contrast orange-brown stain. While this pipe was certainly produced after 1936 and before 1970, I’m not able to more precisely and accurately date it. I would estimate mid-1950s, possibly from the 1955 catalog’s Meerschaum Flame Grain line, but that would be a rough estimate based on the other Kaywoodies I’ve seen from that period. The condition is excellent. It’s pre-smoked, but clearly the previous owner took great care of it. I don’t see any issues that would need pointing out, but please consult the photos to see for yourself before buying. I would be quick though, as my Danish snob colleague has been finding excuses to ‘inspect’ this one for himself all week.
