Description
Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors’ items, in addition to being fantastic smokers.
The “Drinkless” was KB&B’s name for their patented four-hole stinger, a technology that has been all but lost to time, including on Kaywoodie’s own pipes from the late 20th century onward. This disappearance is partly why the Drinkless particularly coveted by Kaywoodie collectors. Even more coveted, however, are Kaywoodie pipes produced before 1936, which can be recognized by their four-digit shape codes. This one, for example, is their 7042 apple shape from the original Drinkless line, and wears that line’s “Suntan” finish, a summery natural blonde stain. As an extra note, the presence of the KB&B logo inside a cloverleaf stamped on the shank should mean that this Kaywoodie was produced prior to 1933, after which that practice was retired.
The condition is good for the pipe’s age. Chamber slightly over-reamed, some inner rim charring, handling marks.
