Julius Vesz Hand Cut Grade Rusticated Poker Estate Briar Pipe
Out of stock
Description
Hungarian-Canadian artisan Julius Vesz carved his first pipe all the way back in 1959, and continues making pipes today in the 2020s. With 60 years of experience in the craft, he is recognized as one of the most seasoned and skilled pipe-makers around, counting among his admirers luminaries such as Richard Carleton Hacker, who remarked upon the ‘rare elegance’ inherent to Vesz’s work.
When the topic of Vesz pipes comes up, one thing that cannot be avoided is a discussion of the briar used in their construction. Vesz’s ‘Hand Cut’ grade pipes are made exclusively from centuries-old briar root that the maker has been collecting since he first began his career, making such pipes renowned for their smoking properties. This Hand Cut is a group 4 poker, which has been partially rusticated and dressed in Vesz’s oxblood stain.
The condition is excellent. It has been smoked, but the rim is in good shape, the finish has held up nicely, and the stem is free from tooth dents or abrasions.
