Description
While not a pipe manufacturer per se, John Aylesbury is a German pipe distributor that has, at various times, commissioned high-quality pipes to be sold under the John Aylesbury name. These have included Peterson, Brebbia, Bentley, and even Les Wood of Ferndown. As this pipe has Holland stamped as its country of manufacture, I would guess that it had been manufactured by Hilson via Gubbels, a Dutch company similarly renowned for its high-quality, well priced pipes.
The design of this one is a traditional large billiard in the vein of, say, the Dunhill LB or the French Maigret genre. The grain is very beautiful, especially thanks to a well mixed contrast stain.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It is chambered to fit 9mm filters, whether charcoal, meerschaum, balsa, but can be used without if preferred, and comes with its own adapter for non-filtered use. It also comes with its original sleeve.
