J. Andrew Kovacs Smooth Freehand Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates
Out of stock
Description
J. Andrew Kovacs was an American artisan from Arizona. Working mostly in the late 20th century, Kovacs was part of the great American freehand scene, ultimately passing on his knowledge of pipe-making to later figures such as Horace DeJarnett.
This particular J. Andrew is a classic of the freehand genre: the fan. It’s a shape that allows the natural straight grain patterns of a briar block to shine in their natural glory, while creating a a highly distinct re-imagining of something like an Oom Paul.
The condition is great. Some minor rim darkening and handling marks, but nothing major that I can see.
