Description

Il Ceppo is an Italian brand that has been producing high-grade pipes since the 1970s. Founded by the architect Giorgio Imperatori in Pesaro, Italy, Il Ceppo is a central figure in what has been called the Pesaro School of pipe design, along with other companies such as Ser Jacopo and Mastro de Paja.

Everyone knows what a pot shape looks like, right? Squat, wide, cylindrical, very classic. That’s certainly the Anglo-French approach, but there’s another genus of pot shapes, this one being native to the workshops of modern Italian pipe-makers. If you look at some of the designs of Le Nuvole or Ser Jacopo, for example, you’ll find a number of pipes whose bowls are carved in the shape of cooking pots—in the case of Le Nuvole, in the shape of casserole dishes, or pignatta. This cauldron-like Il Ceppo looks to be following that trend, to the point where it could be argued that it is in fact a full bent pot. For the sake of appeasing the algorithm, however, I may simply have to term it a “bent brandy.”

The condition is good. Rim darkening and some finish fading.
