HS Studio Roadtown Sandblasted Bamboo Poker Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
While for many years China has been associated with factories pumping out cheap rosewood pipes, HS Studio is different because, as far as my understanding goes, the pipes are mostly made freehand by artisan carvers, kinda like the great Danish ones of old, or Savinelli’s Autograph division. If you’ve been keeping up with the world of Chinese pipes, artisan pipe-making has really been taking off over the last decade, with examples of major workshops being Zhiputang and GH Zhang, overseen by Guo Hui Zhang. Hong Kong’s HS Studio follows a similar model, with Road Town being the make used by the workshop for their more traditional pipe designs.
This pipe, for example, is reminiscent of certain post-war briars, such Dunhill’s Whangee or Kaywoodie’s Mandarin. It is a modest, sandblasted poker, with a bamboo shank extension and an ebonite stem. Also like mid-century briars, it’s relatively lightweight, which should make it a comfortable clencher for veteran smokers.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating.
