Hardcastle Jack O’London 392 Sandblasted Dublin Estate Briar Pipe, English Estates
Out of stock
Description
Hardcastle was founded by Edmund Hardcastle in 1906, in London, England. Like many pipe-makers of the time, such as Barling and Sasieni Hardcastle was originally a family-owned business, with its ‘family era’ coming to an end over the course of the years 1936-1946. During this time, Dunhill partially, then fully, bought out the Hardcastle factory and name, later merging its Parker and Masta acquisitions with Hardcastle in 1967, creating Parker-Hardcastle.
This particular Hardcastle is a very elegant and lightweight rendition of the classic bent Dublin shape, with a rim that actually reminds me of mid-century French designs. Then again, as much as they might not like to admit it, the English and the French are pretty much blood relatives in the world of pipe design, just as they are in a great many things. The stamping suggests Dunhill era, and the stain may well even be the same as Dunhill’s Red Bark.
The condition is good. Some rim darkening and minor finish fading.
