Gregorio Rusticated Freehand Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked

Out of stock

Description

With a name like Gregorio, I’d have thought that this pipe was made by an Italian, or perhaps someone from Spain or Greece, but it appears that it was made by a New Yorker named Joseph Gregorio. Gregorio also seems to have had a cult following back in the day, too, with reputedly excellent briar. I can only assume that his relative lack of renown is due to the immense wave of talented freehand carvers in the US in the second half of the 20th century—just as there were so many great Danish carvers that have been all but lost to time, the same is, sadly, true for much of the world. But that doesn’t make them any less great.

Anyway, melancholy meditations aside, this pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating.
