GBD Virgin 1345 Smooth Poker Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
GBD was one of several prominent examples of a French pipe brand that, due to certain circumstances, became a maker associated with classic ‘British’ pipes. Founded in 1850 by the French trio Ganneval, Bondier & Donninger, the brand was bought and moved to London at the beginning of the 20th century, were it continued to produce high-quality and highly desirable pipes.
GBD’s ‘1345’ is a unique design, being something of a squat hybrid between a pot and a poker. A potker? A poke? You get the gist. This one is quite lovely, with the signature blonde ‘Virgin’ finish complemented by a perspex stem. This must be a pre-Cadogan GBD, owing to the stem and to the brass rondelle inset in it, which makes it quite the collector’s piece too.
The condition is excellent. There are some very minor handling marks, and a tiny bit of darkening on the back lip of the rim, but other than that it does not seem like the pipe has been smoked much at all. The stem makes it look brand new.
