Fleur de Lis 549 by GBD, Meerschaum Lined Bent Bulldog Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
From the beginning of the 20th century until the early-1980s, the famed GBD pipe company had factories in England and in France. Fleur de Lis was a sub-brand manufactured in the French GBD factory, specifically for meerschaum-lined pipes.
This GBD-made Fleur de Lis is quite delightful. It has the stout and stubby proportions famous to GBD, especially in its bullmoose Rhodesians, but this one is a bent bulldog instead. It has some excellent grain, with only a minor imperfection in the briar at the back of the bowl exterior interrupting the flame patterns around the bowl. The meerschaum lining is a nice addition too. The best of both worlds, one might say.
The condition is very good. It’s quite remarkable how well preserved the meerschaum lining is. The bead-lines on the bowl are interrupted by two minor uneven spots, but I don’t see anything else to note. Even the vulcanite stem has retained its jet black sheen.
