Description

Tony Fillenwarth is an American artisan from the state of Chicago. Fillenwarth began making pipes after purchasing a hobby kit from eBay, and in the following years he would become a cult favorite in the American pipe scene.

It is something of a cliche these days to describe a pipe as a ‘functional work of art,’ but for this one I’ll allow it. There is something genuinely impressive about not only the careful attention that’s been given to the relationship between shaping and grain patterns, but also in the unorthodox construction of a ‘base’ for the pipe out of a rusticated tail-end. The section in question has a strange appearance, almost as if it was the raw, elementary form of the briar bursting out of the pipe like a ruptured vein. Or perhaps I’m simply reading too much into it. In any case, it’s a great work of ‘pipe art.’

The condition is great too. There’s a little bit of inner rim darkening, but nothing I would call major.
