Dunhill Shell Briar Straight Billiard Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
To veteran pipe smokers, Dunhill needs no introduction. Beginning in 1907, Alfred Dunhill began selling Dunhill pipes at the tobacconist shop he owned on London’s Duke Street. Very quickly, these pipes gained the reputation of being the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of pipes due to how expertly crafted they were. Today, Dunhill is likely Britain’s most famous pipe manufacturer, and continues to produce some of the most treasured pipes a smoker can buy.
There’s no getting around it – this Dunhill has been overbuffed. Judging by the sandblasting approach, I would assume that this is a very old Dunhill, perhaps a patent-era pipe, and as such, my theory is that this is a pipe that is so old and that has been cleaned and polished so often that the nomenclature was completely effaced over time. In any case, it has been priced to reflect this aspect. In any case, it’s a lovely, classic billiard, which Dunhill is famous for, and it’s also exceedingly lightweight, at just 36 grams. It would be an excellent clencher,
The condition is otherwise good. Its stamping may be gone and its rim may be a little darkened, but I don’t see any other significant imperfections with the pipe. It has many decades of life left in it yet.
