Dunhill Shell Briar 1962 O EX Squat Bulldog Estate Briar Pipe, English Estates
Out of stock
Description
To veteran pipe smokers, Dunhill needs no introduction. Beginning in 1907, Alfred Dunhill began selling Dunhill pipes at the tobacconist shop he owned on London’s Duke Street. Very quickly, these pipes gained the reputation of being the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of pipes due to how expertly crafted they were. Today, Dunhill is likely Britain’s most famous pipe manufacturer, and continues to produce some of the most treasured pipes a smoker can buy.
Along with its larger sibling, the OD 838, Dunhill’s mid-century O shape has captivated pipe smokers and pipe-makers alike. A distinctly squat rendition of the traditional bulldog, it is a firm favorite among smokers of English pipes, and has been recreated countless times by English-inspired artisans, such as Les Wood (Ferndown), J.T. Cooke, Michael Parks, and Jesse Jones. This one wears Dunhill’s signature Shell Briar finish, and comes from a period many consider to have been Dunhill’s best, between the end of the 1950s and the end of the 1960s.
The condition is fair. Some rim darkening, finish fading, and handling marks.
