Description

To veteran pipe smokers, Dunhill needs no introduction. Beginning in 1907, Alfred Dunhill began selling Dunhill pipes at the tobacconist shop he owned on London’s Duke Street. Very quickly, these pipes gained the reputation of being the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of pipes due to how expertly crafted they were. Today, Dunhill is likely Britain’s most famous pipe manufacturer, and continues to produce some of the most treasured pipes a smoker can buy.

While by no means common, pipe sets are nonetheless an tradition for makes and makers in the craft. From 7-day sets, such as Kaywoodie’s “Matched Grain,” to modern artisan collaborations, such as the Fraternitas of Ser Jacopo and Viprati. This collection from Dunhill, on the other hand, may well be the “one set to rule them all.” Produced in 1990, the set features nine pipes, with each one representing a corresponding decade in Dunhill’s history. The 1900-10 representative, for example, features Dunhill’s timeless, standard tapered billiard; 1951-60 is represented by the make’s “Whangee” bamboo Lovat design; and 1971-80 is represented by one of Dunhill’s hand-turned Collector series. As is tradition, this pipe set came in a fitted cabinet case – though Dunhill went the extra mile and added a lock and key for theirs.

This pipe set is completely unsmoked and comes with its original literature detailing the origins of each pipe in the set, signed by then-chairman of the company, Richard Dunhill.
