Description
To veteran pipe smokers, Dunhill needs no introduction. Beginning in 1907, Alfred Dunhill began selling Dunhill pipes at the tobacconist shop he owned on London’s Duke Street. Very quickly, these pipes gained the reputation of being the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of pipes due to how expertly crafted they were. Today, Dunhill is likely Britain’s most famous pipe manufacturer, and continues to produce some of the most treasured pipes a smoker can buy.
Debuting in 1986, Dunhill’s County line featured cumberland stems, a deep and craggy sandblast, and a tan brown contrast finish reminiscent of the early Tanshell—or, perhaps, a Tanshell that had already developed the kind of warm patina naturally develops from a long and faithful smoking companionship. This County is a little bit special, however, given that it is also a “Windshield” pipe. The Windshield was one of Alfred Dunhill’s many patents in the early 20th century, said to have come about due to complaints from a regular Dunhill customer that he couldn’t enjoy his pipe while driving his open-top convertible. Alfred Dunhill’s response was to create a pipe with a raised front rim, thereby protecting its chamber from overheating when subjected to conditions of increased airflow (whether from a natural breeze or indeed from piping at high speeds).
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It comes with its original box and sleeve.
