Dunhill 1963 Shell Briar Sandblasted Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, English Estates
Out of stock
Description
To veteran pipe smokers, Dunhill needs no introduction. Beginning in 1907, Alfred Dunhill began selling Dunhill pipes at the tobacconist shop he owned on London’s Duke Street. Very quickly, these pipes gained the reputation of being the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of pipes due to how expertly crafted they were. Today, Dunhill is likely Britain’s most famous pipe manufacturer, and continues to produce some of the most treasured pipes a smoker can buy.
If you’re looking for an especially rugged, craggy sandblast, and if you’re a fan of classic Anglo-French makes, then it’s difficult to go wrong with mid-century Dunhill like this one. Dunhill has become far less aggressive with their sandblasting in recent decades, an though the results are still excellent, they’re still very different to the pipes that made the Shell Briar a household name. This Shell Briar, from 1963, takes the form of a stout billiard, not unlike the LB or the French Maigret, and shows off a staggering depth to the relief finish.
The condition is fair. Rim darkening, some finish fading, and handling marks.
