Digby 584 by GBD, Sandblasted Bent Bulldog Estate Briar Pipe, [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
Digby was a sub-brand made by GBD. GBD itself was founded in 1850 by the French trio Ganneval, Bondier & Donninger, before the brand was bought by English company Oppenheimer at the beginning of the 20th century. Retaining the name, Oppenheimer opened GBD factories in London and Paris to meet an increasing demand for the make’s high-quality and highly desirable pipes.
This Digby is GBD’s classic shape 584 bent bulldog, dressed in a simple black stain and a delightfully craggy sandblast. The blast itself reminds me of early, patent-era Dunhill Shell Briars, or perhaps Reuben era Charatans. It’s a subtle design, but the classics usually are.
The condition is great. I don’t see any issues to note. The finish still has its sheen and the vulcanite stem is without tooth marks.
