Design Berlin Rico’s-06 Smooth Brandy Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked, 9mm
Out of stock
Description
Design Berlin is, as the name suggests, a German pipe-making company – and is in fact the number two best-selling German pipe make after Vauen. Founded in 1948 as Pfeifenstudio Hartmann by Hubert Hartmann, the company adopted the name Design Berlin and the lowercase ‘db’ logo in 1975 as part of a modernization push.
I do not know who Rico was, or if the Rico’s series was indeed named after an individual, but what I do know is that they are some of the nicest Design Berlin pipes I’ve ever come across. They could well pass for the pipes of some Danish or German master artisan, especially with its late-20th century brandy shape. The last one I listed had beautiful straight grain; this one has similarly beautiful flame grain. As with almost all other Design Berlin pipes, this one has a twin-bore acrylic stem.
This Rico’s is also completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It is chambered for 9mm filters as standard, but should accommodate an adapter of some variety.
