Comoy’s Selected Straight Grain 290 Giant, London Made, Estate [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
Introducing a remarkable and highly sought-after pipe from the 1920s-1940s, the Comoy’s “SELECTED STRAIGHT GRAIN.” This particular piece is a true gem, in an exceptional condition that is very close to mint. The Selected grade of Comoy’s was initially meant to showcase flawless Straight Grain, resembling the esteemed SPECIMEN grade. However, these pipes displayed minor imperfections or flaws, which prevented them from attaining the highest rating. Nevertheless, they possess an undeniable allure with their stunning grain patterns and remain more affordable than their SPECIMEN counterparts.
This specific pipe proudly bears the “SELECTED STRAIGHT GRAIN” stamp on the left side and features the early circular “MADE IN ENGLAND” stamp on the right. It is worth noting that these pipes typically lack the Comoy’s name stamp or the iconic 3-part C logo, and the stampings may vary from one pipe to another.
The early dating of this pipe can be determined by the distinctive “MADE IN ENGLAND” stamp. On this particular piece, the stamp showcases the curved “MADE” at the top, the centered “IN” within the circular stamp, and the curved “ENGLAND” at the bottom. This specific stamping style was only utilized by Comoy’s for a limited period of time.
