Comoy’s Sandblast 186 Sandblasted Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, English Estates
Out of stock
Description
Comoy’s is a historic brand in pipe making, and possibly the most historic brand in the making of briar pipes. Though originally founded in 1825 by a French family from Saint Claude, France, production of Comoy’s pipes was soon moved to London, England, where it established itself as one of the quintessential English pipe companies.
Like their English rival Dunhill, Comoy’s was an early adopter of sandblasting as a means of creating novel finishes that brought the briar’s natural grain patterns into relief. This one shows off the fruits of such techniques quite marvelously, with plenty of craggy ring grain exposed around its bowl. Based on the three-part “C” stem inlay and stamping on the bowl, this Sandblast model should have been made some time between 1950 and 1980, prior to the Cadogan Investments merger in the first years of the latter decade.
The condition is fair. Rim darkening, slight over-reaming of the chamber, and some finish fading.
