Comoy’s London Pride 123 Smooth Straight Pot Estate Briar Pipe, English Estates

Description
Comoy’s is a historic brand in pipe making, and possibly the most historic brand in the making of briar pipes. Though originally founded in 1825 by a French family from Saint Claude, France, production of Comoy’s pipes was soon moved to London, England, where it established itself as one of the quintessential English pipe companies.
Sometimes, you just can’t beat the classics. This Comoy’s for example, is a perfectly proportioned pot in the English mold, with fine flame grain and straight grain patterns swirling around its bowl and a simple, jet black vulcanite stem completing the design. It’s lightweight, reasonably portable, and its distinctly wide bowl should handle ribbon and mixture cuts – especially Latakia blends – as well as the best of them. Though the stamping is a little bit faded, this looks to be a shape 123. Given the three-part C stem logo, this would also look to be a pre-1980 pipe, i.e., from before Cadogan Investments absorbed the Comoy’s make.
The condition is very good for its age. There’s some inner rim darkening, a few handling marks around the bowl, and the button has been overbuffed, but it’s nonetheless a good looking pipe that should continue to smoke wonderfully.
