Description

Comoy’s is a historic brand in pipe making, and possibly the most historic brand in the making of briar pipes. Though originally founded in 1825 by a French family from Saint Claude, France, production of Comoy’s pipes was soon moved to London, England, where it established itself as one of the quintessential English pipe companies.

The Grand Slam was a line of pipes by Comoy with a special stinger system intended to cool and dry the smoke from the pipe before it entered the smoker’s mouth. It is often the case that, over time, parts of this system will become lost as the pipe passes from one smoker to another – but not in this instance. Judging by the inclusion of the patent designation under the Grand Slam nomenclature, as well as the US patent number on the other side of the shank, and the famous ‘three part C’ logo on the stem, this pipe should be from between 1945 and 1953.

The condition is very good. There’s some minor darkening and finish fading on the rim, but the rest of the finish looks great, the stem is free from bite marks, and the pipe still has its original stinger and washer, which is exactly what you want from a Grand Slam.
