Description

Comoy’s is a historic brand in pipe making, and possibly the most historic brand in the making of briar pipes. Though originally founded in 1825 by a French family from Saint Claude, France, production of Comoy’s pipes was soon moved to London, England, where it established itself as one of the quintessential English pipe companies.

While Christmas pipes today are more readily associated with Savinelli or Peterson, the great English (or in this case, English-French) makes have been putting out limited edition seasonal offerings for far longer than either. Comoy’s, for example, have been putting out Christmas pipes since at least the 1970s, and as far as I know, only stopped producing such pipes a few years ago. This one is from 2018 (“PA95” is the shape code), and as I’ve said in previous listings, it’s one of my favorite special editions from Comoy’s. It is a classically-inclined bent Dublin with a beautiful, ring grain sandblast, a golden collar, and imitation horn acrylic stem, all of which comes together to create a genuine old-world charm.

The condition is good. There’s some rim darkening, but it may come off with a more thorough scrubbing. As I always say, I prefer to apply a light touch when it comes to restoring sandblasted and rusticated pipes, leaving any further cleaning up to the buyer’s own preference. A great looking pipe nonetheless.
