Description
In 1974, after growing impatient waiting for a pipe he’d ordered, Claudio Cavicchi decided he would simply make his own pipe instead. The former farmer from Bologna, Italy, spent the next 15 years making pipes, until his work took off and received widespread acclaim. Cavicchi’s pipe-making exploits have only become more renowned in the decades since, while his pipe-smoking exploits have earned him 1st place in numerous slow-smoking competitions.
For a number of years now, Italy’s Claudio Cavicchi has crafted an annual, limited edition collection of pipes dubbed the “Bologna Series.” And when I say “limited,” I mean extremely limited, with yearly production being countable on one’s fingers. For 2024, the theme of the Bologna Series was of distinctly hefty briars, carved specifically to highlight spectacular bird’s-eye grain patterns. These patterns were to be accentuated by a unique, contrast stain, utilizing a very unconventional mixture of greys and light browns, resulting in a decidedly “smoky” finish. This one is a stubby, yet palm-filling, saddle pot, with proportions that could reasonably fall under the label of the “pocket magnum.”
This pipe is completely unsmoked. It comes with its original sleeve.
