Castello Trademark 4K 23 Smooth Apple Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates

Out of stock

Description

Founded in 1947 by Carlo Scotti, Castello quickly became known for producing some of the finest smoking pipes in the world. Over the years, the people involved in making Castello pipes has changed – such as Luigi Radice and Sergio Ascorti, who developed their skills in the Cantu workshop before leaving to start Caminetto, or the handing of the reigns of the company to Francisco ‘Kino’ Coppo after Scotti’s passing – but the superlative quality of Castello pipes has not. It is not without reason that Castello is known as ‘the Italian Dunhill.’

The shape “23” seen here is Castello’s distinct rendition of the old Anglo-French apple. It’s a more plump and rounded interpretation, with a slight forward cant that almost brings it into the territory of the Devil Anse. This one is dressed in the workshop’s Trademark finish, originally a reddish stain reminiscent of the early Dunhill Bruyere. Judging by the uppercase “K” grading on this one, it will have been made some time between the late 1960s and early 1980s, before the lowercase, circled “k” system was introduced.

The condition is good. Minor rim darkening and handling marks.
