Castello Sea Rock KKKK Bent Billiard Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
Founded in 1947 by Carlo Scotti, Castello quickly became known for producing some of the finest smoking pipes in the world. Over the years, the people involved in making Castello pipes has changed – such as Luigi Radice and Sergio Ascorti, who developed their skills in the Cantu workshop before leaving to start Caminetto, or the handing of the reigns of the company to Francisco ‘Kino’ Coppo after Scotti’s passing – but the superlative quality of Castello pipes has not. It is not without reason that Castello is known as ‘the Italian Dunhill.’
This particular Castello is a fairly large interpretation of the classic English-French bent billiard – one might even call it a swan neck shape. But it is also a classically Italian pipe, as it features Castello’s famous Sea Rock Briar rustication. This finish, stained in a very dark brown-black hue, makes the pipe pleasingly tactile. in addition to being a real looker. One interesting thing to also note is that this pipe features a swirling amber-like lucite stem, rather than Castello’s usual jet black lucite. While Castello will use such stems from time to time, their inclusion is far from common, making the pipes that do feature different hues of lucite quite coveted.
As a side note, this pipe was made between around 1970 and 1982, as evinced by its uppercase ‘K’ size grading, which was retired in 1982 in favor of lowercase, encircled ‘k’s. The pipe is in an excellent condition, with its stem free from indents and its finish free from handling marks.
