Castello Natural Vergin Rusticated Straight Pot Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Out of stock

Description

Founded in 1947 by Carlo Scotti, Castello quickly became known for producing some of the finest smoking pipes in the world. Over the years, the people involved in making Castello pipes has changed – such as Luigi Radice and Sergio Ascorti, who developed their skills in the Cantu workshop before leaving to start Caminetto, or the handing of the reigns of the company to Francisco ‘Kino’ Coppo after Scotti’s passing – but the superlative quality of Castello pipes has not. It is not without reason that Castello is known as ‘the Italian Dunhill.’

Like Dunhill’s Tanshell and Savinelli’s Punto Oro Corallo, the Natural Vergin line from Castello is one that uses superior briar and a very minimal stain. As a result, over time as it is smoked, the pipe will develop a warm, brown-sugar patina. It is a similar process to the coloring of meerschaum pipes. This one still has much of the natural briar hue that it was first made with, indicating that it hasn’t been smoked much yet, so its next owner will get to witness that transformation for themselves. As for the shape, it’s Castello’s classic, signature squat, short Canadian-pot hybrid.

The condition is excellent. As mentioned, it does not appear to have been smoked much yet. There’s some darkening on the inner lip of the rim, but it’s minimal.
