Description
Caminetto was, and is to this day, a decisive figure in the history of Italy’s pipe workshop tradition. After spending time developing their skills in the Castello workshop, Sergio Ascorti and Luigi Radice left to found their own venture, which they named, ‘Caminetto.’ Here, Ascorti and Radice were able to create their own now-classic shapes and finishes, such as the rusticated “Business,” and the carved, wax-drip “New Dear.”
Speaking of the New Dear, here we have one such Caminetto. I’ve spoken before about how wax drip finishes are a very Italian tradition, with Castello’s Epoca and Caminetto’s New Dear helping set in motion an approach to finishing that can now be found in the portfolios of many a great Italian brand, such as Ser Jacopo or Ardor. Caminetto’s approach is a little more subtle than the latter, while remaining highly distinctive. In a way, theirs (and by extension Ascorti’s and Radice’s) seems to call back to early French high-grade briars, which were carved much in the same way as meerschaums.
The condition is very good. Some inner rim darkening.
