Caminetto Business 120 KS Zulu Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates

Out of stock

Description

Caminetto was, and is to this day, a decisive figure in the history of Italy’s pipe workshop tradition. After spending time developing their skills in the Castello workshop, Sergio Ascorti and Luigi Radice left to found their own venture, which they named, ‘Caminetto.’ Here, Ascorti and Radice were able to create their own now-classic shapes and finishes, such as the rusticated ‘Business,’ and the carved, wax-drip ‘New dear.’

While Caminetto is known today for its elegant, distinctly Italian pipes, there was a time when it was more known for its rustic and rugged – though no less Italian – pipes. The ‘Business’ was their take on the country’s famed rusticated finishes, which makes sense given its founder’s previous employment at Castello. The Business, as can be seen here, was rougher and more craggy than Castello’s Sea Rock, producing something halfway between rustication and a deep sandblast. This particular Business is an example of the rarely seen “120KS” shape from the Cucciago workshop. While the Zulu is, traditionally, a rather slender and reserved shape, this one is far more muscular and assertive, both due to its shaping and to its finish. Judging by its nomenclature and ‘bird in flight’ stem logo, this Caminetto will likely be from between the late-1960s and the mid-1970s.

The condition is great. There’s a little bit of finish fading on the rim, but nothing major.
